Born in Crickhowell and brought up in Cefn Coed, Richard started making leather goods purely by chance when a friend bought him a small pocketknife. Thinking he might lose this from his pocket, he made a rudimentary knife belt holder. After that he was hooked!
Richard is purely self-taught, using books and YouTube videos to give him the ideas he now puts into practice.
After a number of years, Richard has progressed to making leather goods using the best quality leathers and threads etc. All his goods are hand sewn using a stitch known as Saddle stitch, the strongest stitch available to leather workers. This ensures that if one stitch fails the next stitch will not, so the seam does not come undone (as in a shirt for example).

The leathers of choice are Italian and English in origin coming from the Veneto Region in Italy and the English tannery J&E Sedgewick. Richard’s work covers mainly ladies’ bags, belts (ladies and gents) and small leather goods. He is also available to make any bespoke leather items within reason.
